Hallo allemaal,
Graag jullie reactie.
Groeten.
Hello all,
I searched for "pseudonym" and there comes a truckload of actions and reactions.
Apparently this topic is more than quite alive on this forum.
I also have a question that I hope can be answered.
I always use the Excel list of my collection to avoid buying a book I already own (and no, I don't have a smartphone with an internet connection).
In this overview, the authors are listed under their real names.
This is very inconvenient because they operate under their pseudonyms and I really don't know their real names for most of the writers.
Example: Child, Lee is listed below Grand, Jim on such a chart.
Am I standing there at such a bookshop (double word value in Screbble) and can't find Lee Child.
Is there no other solution to be found, eg writers under the name under which they publish, remembering all real names and also knowing which pseudonyms they belong to is not an option.
Please your response.
Regards.

If you search for Lee Child on Catawiki, you will get Grand, Jim (Lee Child). If you are at a book sales place with a mobile phone, you will get the same.
If you are at a book sales place with your own Excel list, Child, Lee is simply listed under Child, Lee.
I don't think I understand the problem.

It is about searching in your own collection, not about searching in the catalogue.
If you're on a bookstore with your own Excel list, Child, Lee will simply be listed under Child, Lee.
If you export to Excel, Child, Lee is not listed.
The titles are exclusively under Grand, Jim.
I don't think I understand the problem.
It looks like... try exporting an author with a pseudonym like Lee Child / Jim Grant from your collection to Excel.

OK, then I understand better. I had missed that the Excel list was populated from Catawiki.
And if you come across a strange name while searching your own collection, you can trace this name in the catalogue: that's what I meant.

The problem is, when trying to search in my own collection, I don't come across that strange name. I enter the name I know in the search box, but I cannot find any books of it in my collection.
Only when browse through my collection, for example via all authors, see i like strange names. I can see from the covers which author that is; I don't have to look it up in the catalog.

Don't count on this being changed anytime soon. Has been reported between four and five years ago.

I'm certainly not counting on a quick fix, but I do have to respond if an administrator wants to minimize the problem by indicating that the user doesn't understand something or isn't doing it right.
So, just to be clear:
As far as pseudonyms are concerned, the export of books to Excel is unusable; just like the search function within your own collection of books.
The name of the author as it appears on the book cannot be found.

I find it particularly unpleasant when someone attributes motives to me that I have not had. What on earth do I have in making this problem smaller?
I didn't want to make this problem look smaller, but I just didn't understand it.
N.B. I don't use Excel lists: I do everything by heart.
Hallo allemaal,
Hello everyone,
Thanks for everyone's comment (s).
I also feel that problems that can sometimes be solved very easily are just put aside because they are not interesting enough or something (what I really think I will keep to myself for a while).
I just want to be able to print an Excel with my collection with the names of the authors in the right place, namely with the name under which they publish, does not seem that difficult to me.
That someone knows all the names of his favorite writers by heart is at best nice for that person, but that really interests me nothing, and I don't buy anything for it.
It's also totally irrelevant in this regard, I just want an Excel list with all the books in the right place.
This is a site by and for collectors after all?
I do not list my comic books on this site anyway because nothing is done with user input such as reader ratings from books, etc.
If there were a good alternative to Catawiki, a place where users are listened to, I will switch in a minute.

We try to give attention to everything, but sometimes old problems get snowed under by new ones. It is very good that they are being dug out again and brought to the attention.
The problem is that currently only the real name of the author appears on the exel export and the pseudonym (s) does not. That is indeed a nuisance. We're going to take this up to see how we can fix this.

You probably didn't mean it that way, Rob (Vertigo), but your reaction made the problem seem smaller than it really is.
Doing everything by heart is great, but that works at some point no more. I have over 12,000 books in my collection of about 3,000 authors. I have now included about 7,000 of those books in Catawiki and I am still adding them.
Talking about making smaller: Ted also only mentions half of the problem (the export to excel) but forget that searching within your own collection does not work either.

Ted,
Ted,
The problem also occurs with records and CDs where we have taken a similar approach to books. And where Willy Alberti, Robert Long etc. cannot be found in Excel lists (and My Collection).

Ted only names half the problem
Then we'll include that part as well.
From all responses I have to filter the information describing the problem. That is why I also give a description as I interpret the problem. If I'm wrong or missed, the responses will come automatically.
The problem also occurs with records and CDs
It will occur in all sections where names are used in this way. We are going to look for a catalog-wide solution.
