Dear,

I see here that the message was deleted, with subject, "How do you organize your beer coasters collection?"

However, I would have loved to hear opinions from others.

I myself put them in a, not too deep, curver box. The beer mats are standing upright in the box, leaning against each other. And between each pack of beer mats, a strip of cardboard with the letter of the alphabet on it. But my curver box is getting too small again and I'm looking for a more solid solution. Anyone an idea?

Thank Zigeunerke

Try an album with large pockets the size of a standard beer mat. Deviating sizes in large A4 pockets. Even larger beer coasters (Advertising coasters) just hang up, because they are also nice to see.

Or is it no longer a beer mat, but something else (advertising material ??).

I have from Xenos plastic chest of drawers (4 drawers) there fit very well 2 rows of beer coasters next to each other and also the slightly higher beer mats fit in. The chest of drawers is per 4 drawers including 4 castors, but you can also stack them on top of each other, for example 2 times 4 drawers on top of each other. These drawer cabinets cost € 20.00, which is not that cheap, but it is neatly tidy.

I put them alphabetically by beer brand in shoe boxes or other boxes of roughly the same size. If you work with boxes of this size, you can easily slide a box alphabetically between them when felts are added and a certain box fills up, so you do not have to push through the entire collection of felt pads and add a new curver box or something at the back. take. You only have to move the boxes a bit. This is especially useful if, like me, you have many thousands of beer coasters. Only sporadically do I have a felt that is so big that it does not fit in such a box. Insert sleeves are indeed very beautiful, you can easily view the collection and you can insert sleeves where necessary, but this is not feasible for very large collections, because this will be very expensive and will take up a lot of space. Perhaps it can be used for the most valuable felt pads or for a part of the collection that you want to highlight (from a local brewery or on a particular subject). I stick post-its on the boxes so that I can easily find the right box when felts need to be added and so I can easily indicate any changed alphabetic content of the box with a new post-it.

We put them ourselves (after a long search for a pleasant working method) in a CD case. Meanwhile started with the "big" Dutch breweries and now after case 2 looking for case 3 and 4.

You put them in sleeves that hold CDs and the larger and the one with a separate shape go into an insert and that in turn behind the elastic band that is in the lid.

Does a catalog exist

We are building it and it is called CataWiki, you can find it at

Beer mats

Any information they have about the felt pads you can add to it. And thanks to the many collectors, the Catalog continues to grow.

My coasters are in a kitchen drawer, but I also just use them. I do have a few separate ones, but I have them because I like them. 1 excepted, but that is a Heineken giant beer mat and it does not fit in my kitchen drawer.

I have organized my collection in shoe boxes. I get all the same boxes from a local shoe store. And then have all the boxes arranged in a large plastic rack. By brand and alphabetical order. The larger filters I have in a larger flat box.

What is a good way to hang beer mats without damaging them? We are setting up a small outdoor bar and want to attach the felt pads to wood. How do we do that best? I was thinking Pritt buddies myself, but maybe there is a better way?

You can do it with a thumbtack or with some glue on the back.
But then there is always damage or a hole or glue residue.
It's not that pretty but to avoid damaging them you might want to put them in a plastic case.

Both glue and thumbtacks will damage the beer tickets.
But for maintenance afterwards, glue is perhaps the best choice (you can vacuum them). After all, something like that will certainly catch dust. And spiders also like to make their webs between them, I'm afraid.

You can also make something with slats with a slot, just wide enough to put the cards in straight:

Or with pegs:

Thread string and similar pegs on it.
Or a string with clothespins ...

Even then you will have to take everything off regularly to be able to clean. If they are dangling loose, you can't just hit them with the vacuum cleaner :)

There are also clamping systems (long slats that you can open a bit to clamp something in between) that they use, for example, to hang posters:

Think carefully about what is most important: (long-term) simple maintenance, or keeping the coasters undamaged.

Or maybe on a metal plate instead of wood, where the cards are then presented with pieces of magnetic stripe.

It could also be done on wood if you first attach horizontal self-adhesive magnetic tape to it. But then you are stuck with a certain format. With a metal plate as a background, it doesn't matter if the coasters have different sizes.

Just look around the net for 'double sided adhesive pads.
You speak of an outdoor bar.
Then you will have to take into account natural elements such as wind, moisture, heat, ...
Slightly more expensive but durable and easy to maintain.
Take a smooth wooden plate.
Determine format according to your wishes.
Attach the beer mats using double-sided self-adhesive pads.
Mount a transparent Plexiglas plate on top using nuts (in the corners.
Beer mats are well protected against the 'natural elements'. Maintenance friendly.
Easy to disassemble and reassemble if you want to change the 'decor'.
But keep it out of direct sunlight.

Thumbtacks.

But do not poke through the felt, but just next to the edge. Three thumbtacks clamp a (round) felt perfectly. For square felt pads 4 pieces.

If you arrange the felt pads (round or square) in a regular structure, use 4, with each pin holding 2 adjacent felt pads.

Within the structure (excluding the edges) you need 2 extra drawing pins for each extra felt.

I'm not at home right now, otherwise I could have drawn a diagram for you. I also don't have felt pads and drawing pins at hand ;-)

Thank you for the many tips and thinking along! I'm going to try it with old scool pritt buddies (well brand of the Action). Until now I used small nails, but then you will of course damage every felt.

Very nice to receive so many comments! In return a small impression of 'a work in progress'.

Since you are also from West Flanders, you can indeed pop in once in a while. ;-)
