With all due respect to the creator mwb222 .
But the manual is called Film.
And for the 72 categories it is DVD/Video/Blu-ray

buizer The manual and the collection section could perhaps better be called image carriers. You can compare it with the Music collection area (which is actually about sound carriers). CDs/LPs are also discussed there. But I assume readers understand what is meant. It concerns image carriers and DVD/Video/Blu-ray are the most common forms.

The navigation bar (below the black bar) also shows Film.

But everyone will understand what it's about.

But it is not logical that you use 2 different names.
Or the name of the section and manual 'Film'.
Or else name the section and manual 'DVD/Video/Blu-ray'.
Btw the section is called Records and CDs. And the manual too... So it's not called 'music' there.
And to me, 'Film' creates confusion.
Film is a general concept.
And a film is not an object.
But it is somewhere on (carrier): DVD - video - Blu-ray - tape - ...

Yes, the navigation bar also says Film.
And the manual is also called Film.
But on the screen with the 72 categories there is no Movie.
It says DVD/Video/Blu-ray
And that doesn't make sense.
Then at least include the word Film.

Film catalog also gives rise to the idea that in addition to the titles of films, you will also find information about the content of the films themselves.
And that's not the case, with a few exceptions perhaps...

buizer When you open the manual, the first line reads 'the large LastDodo input vade mecum for image carriers'. It is clear to me what it is about and that I should not expect any information about the film.

mwb222 Nice work, I'm very curious. My first cursory impression tells me that the 50 pages are easy to read. I'll study this carefully :)

Collectioneur thanks for sharing!

mwb222 I had a question regarding point 7: Episodes and/or extras. It says ' This section offers the option to enter multiple productions that are on the image carriers. '. To what extent should something be seen as 'production'? I ask this because I sometimes see trailers of other films listed as 'extra' on DVDs. (in my view it is 'just' advertising). Now I still find mentioning titles to be a good idea (although not always useful if you search by title), but as far as I'm concerned it becomes really disturbing if the actors in a trailer are also mentioned as guest actors. In my opinion, this produces 'noise': for example, if I am looking for DVDs of Johnny Depp, I would rather not see on which DVDs (in which he is not otherwise involved) to find a trailer of him. I always tend to remove this, but I was curious whether it is allowed. The Manual does not yet provide immediate clarity...

Mark Good question. I personally do not enter any trailers under Episode/Extra. My intention seems to be to include several films (in a box), episodes from a series or extras with a title such as a documentary or notable interview. I have no idea yet whether it is common for a trailer including people appearing in it to be recorded. At least I haven't noticed it that way. I will include a note about this in the manual.

mwb222 That's nice. I came across it by chance today, although I can't remember which actor. But I assume that I can remove the trailers if they are explicitly listed as extras (I had previously done so with the film 'Hurricane'). I don't think it happens often, but when it does, I personally find it disturbing.

Immediately a follow-up question: I sometimes also see that actors who have a small role or a cameo are not listed under the actors, but are listed under the guest actors (because the main film is set as an 'episode'.) (E.g. at #915453 )

Although there is something to be said for it, I always only use one criterion when entering: is there an actor or actress in the film? Then he/she is an actor in the film (and not a guest actor). An additional reason for this is that it is not always immediately clear how big a person's role is in the film, and that the distinction between actor and 'guest actor' is therefore not always clear. I also find no clarity about this in the manual (or am I reading over it??)

The fields for new episode/extra are intended for individual episodes, extras and now also for films if there is a box set or collection of films. It is certainly not the intention to shoot the film (from the main fields) again here or to place cameo actors here. If an actor (major or minor role) is in the film, please mention it in the 'main fields'. We have now proposed in the manual to limit this to approximately 10 actors. If you want to know everything about a movie, IMDB is a better place. LastDodo is a collector's platform that primarily focuses on collectibles and not on the in-depth backgrounds of the productions featured on that collectible.

I see no objection if a trailer is also mentioned under extras, but without actors, etc. In the case of a trailer, this does not really add anything since it can also be mentioned in the extras field.

The design of the film collection area (image carriers) was (unfortunately) not well thought out in the beginning (in my opinion). Adjusting this proves difficult, meaning that some fields or structure no longer always make sense. I think all kinds of things about that, but I am also dependent on what is (IT) technically possible. Various matters have already been added or clarified in consultation. So what is possible is taken up.

In my ideal LastDodo world, the information about the carrier and the information about the productions present on it (films, documentaries, series, extras, music performances, etc.) should be separated. Actually just like with the music collection area. There you also have information about the carrier itself and then about each number separately.

You have everything that has to do with the physical object (item) and everything that has to do with the productions. All data about productions should be able to be repeated each time as an episode/extra/film because each production has its own specific circumstances. This not only concerns the direction, actors, composer, etc., but also the color, sound, aspect ratio, etc. I hope that something can be done about this. But I'm not about that.

That is why the manual has become so long to ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible in various specific situations within the collection area of image carriers, despite the fact that the structure of the database is sometimes somewhat illogical.

Finally. Some 'mistakes' date from the past when there were not always separate fields and also no clear manual. There are also different types of collectors and traders and not everyone understands the agreements equally well. There are also always choices that can be discussed because every choice sometimes has advantages and disadvantages. In that respect it will never be 100% to everyone's satisfaction. However, we (the administrators) do our best to prevent major deviations and to convert good proposals into improvements to the database or the manual.

Regards,
Matthijs

Thank you for your extensive answer. I never include cameo players as guest actors, but simply list them as part of the cast. And with that said, I also want to share one thought. You wrote 'we suggested in the manual to limit this to 10 actors'. That is understandable, because entering a complete cast takes a lot of time. But when I look at myself: I actually like to see a cast listed as completely as possible. I regularly spend time doing this myself, both for productions that I own and those that I do not own. Sure, it can be found on Imdb, but LastDodo does have the advantage of a quick search function. And I also think it has added value, because I can easily see in my personal overview how many items I have from a specific person, regardless of the size of his or her share in the production. The fact that Freek de Jonge, for example, has a small role in the Flemish film Mira (1971) is something I discovered through LastDodo. And also the reason why I added this to my collection. This also applies to actors/actresses who suddenly break through: when the previous, small roles are mentioned. So I would think it would be a shame if the proposal to limit it to 10 actors becomes a hard rule of a maximum of 10 actors. And in my experience the mention of the complete cast does not disrupt the primary purpose of the collectors' platform, rather it adds something. But, as I started: I would understand it for practical reasons.

In any case, I now know that - if I come across it - I can remove the actors if they are listed in a trailer and that if the film is included in episodes in order to distinguish between regular cast and guest actors, I will do this. may repair in accordance with the rules of the manual.

And if I unexpectedly make a mistake, please tell me about it.

Sincerely,
Mark

To be sure. So it is not prohibited to enter more than 10 people from a cast and I do not expect this will ever happen. As you note, it is also about clarity. I limit myself to the most important roles, supplemented with possibly important actors (even if they have a small role) in order to find situations like you describe with Freek de Jonge. The boundary differs per case, but to now include every actor who plays a Stormtrooper or Orc... This is about a balance between complete but still clear. There are no hard guidelines for this.

At 2.2.
- Sometimes the deviations between two objects are so small that others can hardly see what difference there is. In that case, clearly state what differences there are between the two copies in the details field.

Not so long ago, many subtitles and spoken languages were combined by Collectioneur (?), but now I see languages being added again, such as 'Dutch [in extras]' and 'Spanish [dubbed]'... What will happen now? the appropriate method of entry? Here too it might be useful to mention something about it in the Handbook...

Where do you see "Spanish [dubbed]" under Spoken Languages? We deliberately left out the dubbing.
That subtitle "with extras]" has remained unchanged.
If mwb222 also thinks that addition to 12 "Languages subtitles" we can remove it.

The "... [for extras]" is rarely used. However, the subtitles for extras sometimes differ (significantly) from the subtitles for the 'main film'. That is why these are still included. I personally only take the languages of the main film and omit the languages of the extras. But for others that might be a good addition. What would be a good reason to omit this "...[for extras]"?

A subtitle is a subtitle, whether it is for the film itself or for the extras. For whom would it be of added value if "....[with extras]" was mentioned? With the omission, the choice (161) of languages for subtitles is reduced by 12.

Ah okay! I thought those subtitles were as tidy as the spoken languages, not so! At least it's completely clear to me again!

That [extras] addition to subtitles is indeed nice! Often a second disc (with extras, for example) has subtitles that cannot be called up with the main film on another disc... Or the extras are not subtitled at all...

Thanks for your responses.
