The stamp is from 1951, easy to look up via Suriname and then face value. Postcard produced/printed in Canada, but seems older to me, partly considering the text Netherlands Guiana. I will enter this, perhaps someone knows the series (card is numbered 118) and approximately year. The back is allowed, family friends who are no longer there.

The lettering of the card (as far as it is legible) does not seem very old-fashioned. So I don't think the card is much older than 1951. It is possible that the photo used is much older.
The use of Netherlands Guiana doesn't seem to mean much to me. It is quite possible that that was the most common name for Suriname in Canada at that time.

[Edit] Where I wrote Canada, I meant English-speaking countries.

Since there are no further responses from postcards, ladies and gentlemen, I follow your analysis. Indeed, that old photo gave me the idea that the card might be from the 1930s or so. Ergo set to 1950 for the time being.

I also initially thought of the 1930s (during WWII there was probably much less demand for postcards, so that period is not an obvious choice). My hypothesis was based on the fact that the lettering of (European) postcards in the 1930s was usually not sans-serif. And if that is the case, the style is often recognizable from the period.

But it could be that the card was hand-lettered (before printing). Your scan is not very clear, so I cannot determine it with certainty.

Sorry, I started having doubts. Dating postcards is also very difficult, because there is not a lot of literature about it. Many collectors also seem more interested in the image itself.

The only way to gain more certainty about the dating is to compare it with other maps from Suriname. That is of course very labor intensive.

To know the ins and outs, I have to take a postcard knowledge course, which is a bridge too far. We'll keep it that way, thanks again.

If only such a course existed!

A typography course would also be useful. You can use that for more collection areas. ;-)
