Just a question for reflection on whether it has/can have added value.

Recently introduced a CDS which has made me do some scavenging for information as we have only recently been working on the matrix number.

It is of course striking that there are several information points, where 1 in particular drew my attention to something (so I didn't know > looked it up). (matrix; master, mold sometimes logo)
Doesn't want to burden administrators or reviewers with extra work (and of course also for an inserter/star), but thinks it's worthy of discussion. : Is it real or a 'bootleg' .

So it turns out that (I didn't find out whether that/od only applies to CDs) an IFPI (number/code) often serves as a recognition point (pressed/printed/lasered in a blank inner ring).
Is that perhaps something for the future or is that too extreme/unnecessary?
I was wondering, so I'll bring it up..

Leike-w Sorry if I'm interfering in something unsolicited, but I'm looking at my CDs and there are indeed numbers and / or letters in the inner ring, but I don't know if those are also the IFPI codes .. What does such an ifpi number mainly consist of?

catacrumpie no, just join. As far as I understand this type is always in the inner ring (mould code SID) and bears the letters : IFPI with a number .. (hmm appears to be after 1994 only .. just found).
Well, my explanation as I understand it: imprint of the stamp of the press, and if I read and translate it correctly, the first 2 numbers of it also say where it was pressed. (doesn't tell me anything yet, will be lists). (edit: so those copies for the 'market'; (= not the mastering code)).
(sorry.. new area, busy with 'medium' audio ;-) still has a lot to learn...).

attached : picture (says more than words (and info).

Leike-w Have 2 CDs here... 1= Nightwish - Century Child.. the 2nd = Bruce Springsteen - Rocking live from Italy 93.. See that they both have an IFPI code, but I'm almost certain that the latter is a bootleg.

Ha, yes apparently there is an Unofficial Release/Bootleg / Unauthorized IMA, 2cd 2008, but I don't know if that is it, or if it has such a number or not. With a (disc) printer you can't (as far as I know) come home in that profession, so it must be done professionally somewhere.

With vinyl we already have problems with bootlegs or counterfeits
I think it's even worse with CDs
bootlegs in, say, the 70s were simply recognizable
Counterfeits were already a problem to recognize back then, the recognition was then in the fact that you could put an original next to the counterfeit and then what?
#4612895 is a book but from 40 years ago that puts a large number on paper

but with modern technology you really don't see the difference anymore
so honestly let this just stay a far from our bed show!

I can certainly agree with that Dick52 . The deeper you look, the messier it gets.
1 major similarity that you do see passing by is a decrease after 2014. ('Mitschnitt' ?) And yes the increasing technology...
