Translate to EnglishIn the catalog it is still not allowed to include a subtitle that is not on the binding or dust jacket of a book if it is on the title page. Where I also enter the title page in terms of photo, I often add it, but that is sometimes removed. But then sometimes by the administrator in the details. I could also adopt that as a method, but why is there such a problem? A subtitle to the title of a book is often very important. When ttv input a title page is listed as the 3rd photo/scan, I certainly don't see the objection of a subtitle. LD is LD I know, but our Koninklijke Bibliotheek works by definition with subtitles, whether they are on a cover or not.

Translate to EnglishAt the time, it was so agreed. One of the reasons is probably that the correctness of the subtitle cannot always be checked, if it is not on the front cover. For paperbacks, for example, in approx. 99% of the time, the title page is not shown.
A subtitle is indeed often important, but really important subtitles are placed n.m.m. also on the front cover/front cover.

Vertigo, goedemorgen.

Translate to EnglishVertigo, good morning. Well I look at it from my own perspective and you are right without a picture a subtitle cannot be checked, although with a check at KB it is possible. But yes, the latter cannot be done. In this case it was Kappie Marie #9170315
A change to the rule that a subtitle would be allowed with a picture (3rd scan or so) of the title page will have no priority. I'll put it in details then. Have a nice day !
Abbreviated info about Kappie Marie I have put at series/hero.

Translate to English Just to add that for many book lovers a title and subtitle can be quite interesting. See #5754087
The 1st edition of this book 1936 was titled on the dust jacket "Fungi for the carriage" however on the binding and the title page clearly shows Fungi for the carriage or ... fleas for the skillet with the subtitle "a sketch from Frisian village life" . That of the fleas was omitted in the reprints, perhaps because fleas are a characteristic of poverty and the author or publisher thought the title was a bit too melancholy for a children's book. Poverty is what this book is partly about.
So as a perfectionist I would say: original title the text with the fleas and the subtitle village life.

Translate to EnglishArco was quite strict in enforcing the Handbook. The title must be taken literally as it appears on the object. That is because it primarily concerns the identification of the item (the book), not the content (the story).
The above example shows that it is not always unambiguous, where the subtitle does appear on the book cover (and - slightly different - on the title page), but not on the dust jacket. I understand that the binding has priority.
I always like Harry's solution too, by including the subtitle in the Original title. (And at Details.)
