The Postcard Handbook 1.0 has been published and has also become effective.
The help texts for the input fields have been adjusted where necessary.
The Theme field is no longer required to be completed.

It is a living document, so not recorded for eternity. If there are any errors or things need to be adjusted, please report them in this topic.

Thank you very much to everyone (forum / email) who helped create this document!

There is still something duplicated, under 3.1. Title, last part:
Language and capital letters
With Postcards, when entering titles, we copy what is stated on the card. If an indication of a place, etc., is stated in capital letters, we include this in the title. 9. Background information
For general information applicable to artists, composers, carriers, labels, etc. (hereinafter referred to as “person or company”), a background information page can be entered.
This text is literally copied from the Handbook of Records and CDs, I think.
You won't find many “artists, composers, carriers, labels” here.

Perhaps you should immediately add 'Artists' to the list under the theme?
And Beatles and Rolling Stones are big enough for their own theme.

Sorry, I don't think we should add themes. First remove the unnecessary themes.

In addition, 'Artists' is an ambiguous concept. It can relate to musicians, but also to (other) artists.

Yes, of course, remove unnecessary themes.
But you can always ask to create one if it is not in the list, right?
Would you like to create a new theme 'musicians or something like that?
Take a look at the theme list starting with Music: 2 Men Ahead...
And what comes/follows...
And perhaps also create one for Writers and Painters.
And what do you do with Comics and Comics Authors?
And a few more in that 'style'.
So that's what I mean.
And the faster the list shrinks, the better. So I would say start with 'such themes...
18702 themes.
You're scrolling to pieces at the moment...

You can always ask to add something, but that doesn't mean the request will be honored,
We have been working on reducing the list for a long time. Any distraction does not help.

You are already scrolling less than a few weeks ago. Back then the number was 19.xxx, now it has already dropped to 18.7xx! A lot of sweat among the (super) administrator(s) => less sweat among the users. Good job, for those who want to see it.

There will still be a lot of thinking about what and how in the Themes list. Adding it now could lead to it disappearing again within weeks. Before you can add back, it must be clear: single or multiple.
At this moment, duplicate, similar and nonsensical ones (e.g. 'Bicycle against lamppost'...) are mainly removed. Soon we will see the trees in the forest again. And we shouldn't scroll to death anymore.
Keep it in mind for when the time comes when the number of themes approaches a manageable number, and the direction in which things are going is stable.

You're currently scrolling to pieces...

I don't quite understand this buizer or Raoul62 . This involves entering a new item and searching for the theme for it?. Enter the first 3 letters in the theme list in quick succession and you are almost at your goal. For example, with cityscapes. If you are quick you can also try the first 4 letters, city, you are immediately at city. If you are even faster, I don't know?.

No, Charles1971, it is not as simplistic (as in the stamp section) with Postcards.

You are looking for a theme with a bicycle, you type bicycle and you appear in the list (alphabetically) with 4 options that start with 'bicycle'. But there are 15 possibilities. 11 where 'bicycle' is not in front. Can be listed alphabetically under both A and Z. In other words, you have to scroll up against the stars.
In addition, the size of the list of themes means that it is not nerve-free.

The misery is those combined and 'descriptive' themes. Such as 'Street with bicycle' and 'Street with cyclists'.
Perhaps originally the Particulars field was not present in postcards, and people had to express their opinion somewhere. In the field theme.
(cynical comment that needs no response).

For churches you have 271 themes, spread over many letters of the alphabet.
You have to look carefully, because if it is a Chinese church, then the theme is 'Chinese church' (at the C). If it is a new church, then choose 'Buildings: Churches - New Church' (at G).
If you are not sure, there is even one with a question mark: 'Bridges: over Westerdiep near NH church?'. Always good.

In Children you have to look carefully at what is depicted around. If it is with the mother, then it is 'Mother and child' (under the M), unless there are still 4 swans and a scooter involved. Then you choose 'Bridges: 4 swans, child with mother and scooter' (under the B). There you are when you type 'child'. Then you have 100 options that start with a child, but not those with or without 4 swans.

No, it's not that simple. :)

And how do you actually know if it is the 'Mother'? It could also be an aunt, a stepmother, a plus mother, a big sister, a neighbor...

Indeed an unworkable theme list for Ansichten Raoul62 . Then things are better arranged at Post Stamps. It is indeed still a lot of work to arrive at a workable theme list of Postcards, which is also useful to the theme collector.

Thank you for all the work done to create this 1.0 version. At first glance this is an excellent piece of work. I can well imagine that additional questions, comments and perhaps discussions will arise when using it. After all, insights can change.

In the theme list you can't even type... only choose...

By typing the first letters buizer , without any glitches, you will reach your goal a lot faster. For example, riv immediately gives an endless list of rivers. Here you can also immediately see that Dommel and de Dommel are doubled.

When I am at the Maas river, and I key in Maas, I end up at the Maas river, so another double. The Mosel River and the Moselle River are also a double.

And for this I barely touched the scroll.

Then explain to me how you actually type 'riv' in the 'theme' field when you enter...
In a closed list (drop down) so...
You always 'have to' go to 'a search bar'.
That's what I want to say.
And also back to 'theme'.
Or you work with a 2nd screen.
But does everyone do it that way, let alone know it already...

Then explain to me how you actually type 'riv' in the 'theme' field when you enter...

Step 1 : Click next to 'Theme' where you see .
The list opens. This can sometimes take 20 seconds (or more). After all, there are 18.nnn themes in the postcards section. That's not a small list ;)

Step2 : when the list is open, type the letters riv (using the keys on the keyboard)
You enter the list at the first word that starts with 'riv':

Patience is a virtue.
In the Postcards section... a necessary evil.

I'll soon become a poet.

And where do you type riv?
The list opens. And even 'quite quickly' I think.
Can scroll all the way to the bottom.
For example, I see that the very last theme does not even start with a capital letter 'Z' but with a lower case letter 's'; bull mastiff

Just on the keyboard of your computer. Or keyboard, as Raoul calls it (in the Netherlands it is only called that for musical instruments).
Or do you work on a tablet?

Especially with this long list of themes, it is important that you get the first letters to approximately the right place. That is why this is also stated in the manual:
