It is still not clear to me how to deal with the introduction of 'actual' release. according to the manual. In many cases it is clear that it is a reissue (different cover, different release number) but especially in the 60s there have been many long-running singles, with many layout changes of labels, (colours, Label logos, covers etc.) eg the Beatles many repressings are known. As a result, many inconsistencies can be found in the catalog. Sometimes the original release date is stated with 'particulars' that it is a repress from another year and sometimes it is entered the other way around. In some cases it seems to me to be a difficult phenomenon, but it is possible that something additional could be mentioned in the manual about the import year and reprints to make things a bit more unambiguous.

Sorry, I don't quite understand that yet. There can be no misunderstanding about the year to be entered.
The Handbook states about the year to be entered (at the very top):
"Enter here the year in which the item was actually released"

It is therefore not correct to state the year of the original release under Year (unless you enter the original release). If you state under Details that the original release was released in a certain year, then that is sometimes a valuable addition.

If it is the other way around: under Year the year of the original release and under Details the actual year of the entered item, then only one conclusion is possible: completely wrong!

As Vertigo writes, the rule is very clear, but I can see your problem ;-) It is often difficult to determine in which year a record was pressed. Sometimes you see a year in the run-out groove on LPs (Philips used to do that, for example), but often not. Sleeves and labels sometimes give an indication of whether it concerns a later repress. The fact that it says p 1963 on the label, for example, doesn't say it all. That is the year of the first pressing. Reprints almost always have the same release number. That doesn't really help either. In short, it is quite difficult to determine whether it is a repress. I usually use the booklets from Warm Sounds to determine from which year a single is. If you can't figure it out, you can always contact me. Then I'll take a look and think along with you.

It's still a bit of detective work.
Warm Sounds are good references. Sometimes Discogs too. Unfortunately I only own the Bovema edition.
I own a lot of Columbia singles from Bovema and because of that I know, for example, when those labels went from purple to green to black.
Thanks for the feedbacks.

I have about 11 of Warm Sounds (out of 17) There will be a new book soon, containing all the songs.
I am working on a project about Phonogram (Philips) singles from the years 1970 - 1982. Part 5 of the accompanying magazine will be published shortly. See https://phonogram.jouwweb.nl/

Warm sounds: Good to hear! Philips singles from 1970, nice project. Around 1970, the stereo singles started to come into vogue, although sometimes stubborn mono remained, while the single was originally in stereo. Something has been messed up in record country….I'm going to take a look at the website.

Remains a problem
You can sometimes tell by the layout label that it is a later edition
Sometimes inner sleeve
The cover has a barcode on it, then the cover is certainly not from 1963
If there is something in the run-out groove
Is beautiful but impossible to check
Include this type of data in details
The LC code is also something that saw the light of day at the end of the 70s, also a small handhold

Little bit off Topic
What I find annoying is that a single by a group in Jan was released in June and another one in Nov
Then the year comes first Nov then Jan and then June some what is correct the year sequence is not
Not a problem but can we solve this?

As for Warm Sounds: there is a facebook page with info.
There was indeed some messing around by the record companies in the last century. The main goal was to make money, not to provide us with fantastic music ;-) Peter Voskuil has written a nice book about it: Dutch Mountains.

Several singles within a year is indeed annoying for the sequence. I'm afraid there isn't much that can be done about that. I also try to include the full release date as much as possible with the Phonogram project. The problem is that you have to rely on documentation that is almost impossible to find. They are often brochures with new releases that the companies sent around to record stores, etc. or mentions in music magazines.
What you could do is to attach a number of sequence somewhere, but that is also not doable for a "normal" collector. You need to know exactly how many singles a group has released. The Hitdossier is a good starting point, but the singles that did not make the charts are not in it....

It is indeed difficult, you could give a month mention
But that won't work with represses either
But who knows, maybe 1 has a great idea?

Can you maybe give some examples.
When it comes to LastDodo's songs.
And maybe when they were released.

Couldn't a new "Number Addition" field help? For Strips, for example, we use this if several editions of the same serial number are published in the same year. Just simple with a lowercase letter a, b, c, etc.

I don't think so. What Dick means is the following: an artist releases, for example, 5 singles in a certain year. We cannot indicate which single was released first. Example: The Beatles released 7 different singles in the Netherlands in 1963. The first was Love me Do, the second From Me to You, then She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand, It Won't Belong, Twist and Shout and finally Ask Me Why. Within the catalog they are neatly sorted by year, or another criterion. Release number is the closest, but different series of release numbers are used. (HHR, O(deon) and R (Parlophone). I'm afraid it's not possible.

That already exists and is (by me) frequently used. Could be. That will be a series with the title "Beatles Singles Netherlands 1963" and number 01 No idea if Dick had something like that in mind.

I don't think it would be useful, because you don't know the correct date for most singles, so you won't get the correct order yet.

Was only a suggestion.
But you can get a lot from the internet, just take a look at 45Cat to the Beatles, it has almost every date on it, you certainly know this too.
Have this is regularly added to specifics.
Small example #3086303
But I think that Dick52 Know more than I do about release dates for the Beatles records.
For other records from other Bands, it seems a little easier to me.

I get that ;-)
45CAT I indeed use very often. Indeed, many singles have an extended release date. I used the example you give myself. (I have the dates of almost all German Beatles singles ;-)
The same often applies to other bands. There are sources that have release dates. For example, there is a book about English singles (Cat45 took them out of that) and I know of a PDF document about Australian singles. But there aren't many.
But what do you think of Collecteur's idea of doing it via the series fields?

The problem is that it only stands out if the selection is by year
(which is usually the default display)
I've suggested:
a date field that you can still look up? (But that only counts for the first issue)
And reprints can appear throughout the year and after that
Sometimes the layout changes you can do something with that!

https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/474- beatles-the?cf%5B10%5D=83443&cf%5B8353%5D=509755

Are the Ned singles in the catalog to date

I launched this more from the idea maybe someone knows a nice solution
