Requests for a new field in this section can be reported in this topic.
Clearly explain the purpose and usefulness of such a new field.
Does not mean that this will be automatically honored.
We are unable to provide a schedule for any adjustment.

Currently, the following requests have (already) been submitted:
  • Current field Split perforation into 2 fields - perforation type and perforation quantity
  • Make the field Shown on stamp multilingual
  • Add field: Exact text on stamp
  • Add field Sub-type

With a field 'Publisher' I would get a lot further with FDC's, Maximum cards and FDS ...  This is not the same as printer. eg. for the Netherlands there are different publishers of FDS and Maximum cards, most of them are printed by the same (known) printer.

With perforation I wonder what the use of the type of perforation (line or comb) is. There are catalogs that omit this for that reason...  Will there also be a kind of 'Tanding type variety'?
Tanding separately would be a step forward because it makes the selection list  smaller.

Could you give a little explanation at Sub-type?

Can a little explanation be added to Sub-type?

This will give you a few Main Species and several Sub-species. Especially because those sub-species are often a local matter, which do not occur in other countries. It is anticipated that more (sub)species will be introduced in the near future. Especially for new users it is easier to indicate a main type, a sub-type can then be entered later.

I will add the Publisher field to the wish list.

Could there be a field with  "Catalogue number" for non-standard numbers just like with coins and to make room you could omit Paper type or Eraser is only filled in little so I don't think it is important

A field "Exact text on stamp" then requires special measures: cyrillic characters, diacritics (Polish, Czech), arabic, chinese and japanese, hindu (to name a few).
Paper: type matters for paper with and without silk threads (including Switzerland). In addition, many former British colonies also have colored paper (yellow, blue, red, green) with or without a white/colored back. The latter may perhaps be relegated to specifics, but the rest cannot.
Gom only applies to MNH stamps anyway. Once used, you can't determine that, unless cancelled-to-order. Also in ancient times stamps were sometimes issued without gum (glue pot on the post office, buy and stick it on immediately). That kind of information was also relegated to specifics. It is therefore better to expire gum, because "stamps are deemed to have been issued with gum, unless stated otherwise" (Explanation to be added in Handbook.).

Leendert
Is only filled in a little

That is for the most part a matter of laziness on the part of the importers. They think that the administrators will fill it in. Measuring perforation and determining watermark yourself is (too) much work, isn't it.
What are non-standard numbers by the way?

Paper type and gum I would not immediately write off Leen.

Stamps have been issued without gum. So, without that lick layer from the back, they are MNH. Not in large numbers, but there are. To make that clear, the 'gum' field is important. The buyer buys 'MNH' and determines that there is no gum layer on it ...
There are also issues with 'normal gum' on it, and then the same stamps are also issued with green or blue gum. DAVO has even provided the magazines for certain countries. If you want to fill those pages, you can search efficiently by selecting 'Gom'. A seller who is effective will not fail to fill in that property if applicable. This is how your merchandise will be found.
Then you have the stamps that have been issued gummed (for licking) and self-adhesive (don't have to lick). Just as in the shops sellers sometimes sell the toothless and then deliver the toothed ones (eyes not good enough to see it in the small picture in the gallery), so there are also those who sell the gummed version and then the self-adhesive deliver - or vice versa (nice examples can be found in the area of Germany). Then I always give a seller a tip: look in your shop in Stamps, select 'Perfect' and check those items to see if you have made a mistake. 95% of such mistakes are quickly rectified, without having to go through all the stamps offered.
Normally you shouldn't make a mistake like this when you read the detail of a stamp. But most of them still remain 'picture viewers'. That's just the way it is.

Paper type is also sometimes important. The price can vary enormously. Why else would a philatelist invest in a UV lamp, or a digital thickness gauge. Fluffy or not, thick paper or not... it can make a huge difference in value (for some).

But indeed, it is little filled in. Because it is only applicable to a limited extent. But I wouldn't delete those fields.

What are non-standard numbers by the way?
In spain and portugal they use their own
In Sweden and Norway often Facit, In Finland usually LaPe, Canada a Canadian
I could go on but in general they don't use Mich, Yvert, Scott ,SG
With coins you can enter multiple Catalogs under Catalog number box
And what you write paper type I didn't know that so thanks for the info

That's what I was talking about, the 1st time on:

 December 26, 2020 14:27
I had more or less suggested replacing NVPH with 'Landeigen catalog'. Maybe set it somewhere or mention it on the info page of that country.
Spanish (and ditto areas) stamps or philatelic things you won't find in NVPH. Waste of the field. Spaniards have Edifil.

And then as a repeat on:

September 16, 2021 18:21 (if missed opportunity ...):
Create the field country-specific by means of one additional label field. Let the administrator of a country (area) determine which catalog (for the Netherlands and colonies: NVPH, for Belgium and colonies + EX AREAS: OBP, for Indonesia: Zonnebloem, ...) and always show the 2 together.

It's a shame that there is a box for a 'non-standard' (country-specific) catalog code, and that it is not used in 96% of the items ...

Types: franking, postage, service, tax, postal stationery
Applications: stamp, airmail, tax, Jul, FDC, EDB, receipt, tax, charity, booklet, block/sheet, black printing, luxury sheets.... ...
Distracting types and applications seems useful to me. (I'm sure I forgot some). Now they stand together, which seems illogical to me.

So instead of Sub-Type this field should be called "Application"?

Putting two different things apart. Species and uses are somewhat more obvious than "subspecies" and more likely to be understood. Applications are then ways to use the types of stamps.

'Seal' is not an 'application' like Airmail. Then you need an extra field 'Appearance form'. Maybe a subdivision:

  • 'Issuing agency' (Post, Tax Authorities, etc)
  • 'Appearance' (Stamp, Sheet, Booklet etc)
  • 'Application' (Postage, Airmail, Postage, Fiscal,  etc)  ?

@raoul62 could the field 'publisher' also help to get some overview of the many personal stamps that have been created (in recent years) by companies and organizations?

MennoGo
'Personal' is a mixed bag and a ratatula in which not much line can be drawn. Everyone can fill in the 'frame' with an image of their choice. Every day hundreds of new issues in the same frame ... Aunt Kate in full regalia, Uncle Bob in the 'tipsy' phase of a party, Kastaar with girlfriend no. 35 on a skiing holiday, favorite hamster Knabbeltje, Blub my goldfish, ...
Too bad you have to create/order them per 20 (situation in Belgium). Otherwise you could still exclude them from the catalog as 'home industry' :)

However, the field 'Publisher' may offer some relief for the more or less 'official' personal stamps. I don't know how it goes in other countries, but bPost (Belgium) also issues 'personal' stamps with the regularity of a hyper-kinetic clock. Thematic. You can buy these in the newsagent or supermarket. Dogs, cats, horses, ... My Stamp and/or My Stamp Pro in a large commercial edition. Fantasy Winter, Fantastic fauna, Happy Summer, Thema Happy, Uit in Belgium, Waters in Belgium (!), Sweet Kisses, ... You can't think of the title crazy enough.

'Personal' are not my thing, I don't warm to it. There is no ambition to delve into it. Sometimes I get it left and right. And then I regret that they are used. Otherwise I could at least do something with it (send something).
Just as my family photos will never captivate a stranger, so personal stamps will never captivate me.
The only solution is a button 'Ban Personal Stamps' where you as a user indicate that you NEVER want to see a result on your screen that is contaminated with such items.
Perhaps it is very clear how I feel about it (as a collector)? :)
