I have the What's Eating Gilbert Grape? purchased from 2005. (That is the year on the cover). The barcode, on the other hand, is the same as the previously published version from 2002. The cover from 2005 does, however, have (small) differences with that of 2002, and the order number is not identical. Also, the barcode, order number and sleeve do not correspond with other versions from 2005. Should this still be entered as a new item? And if so, isn't it confusing that the barcodes are identical?

physically different cover is a new item. The partial differences in appearance outweighs the fact that they are partially identical :)

Indeed, there are many items with the same cover, the same order number and the same barcode.
With the arrival of the Snapper Case and Super Jewel Box as an implementation, a lot of ambiguity has already been removed.
Snapper Case https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/5126927-snapper-case
Super Jewel Box https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/5126929-super-jewel-box

There is only a lot entered at Digipack which is not a Digipack (Sort of environmentally friendly jewel case) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digipack

And movies are often doubled (with extra cardboard sleeve and without the cardboard sleeve while it is the same release, only the extra sleeve is missing.
