“order number”, what does that mean? is that the EAN code? if not, is the EAN code good to mention?

By Order number we meant the number that (usually) appears on the spine of the DVD or box.
Usually has nothing to do with the EAN .
I would also be in favor of a EAN field, just as we use a ISBN on books.

oh, ok, so some kind of release track like with the CDs? isn't it better to use the same term for DVDs? or is it called differently with DVDs?

EAN we will also add. Is comparable to ISBN in books and comics and we do that too.

And what if there is a slightly different order number on the DVD and that is not the EAN number (number with the barcode).

I recently added an X-Men Origins Wolverine DVD to my collection, but my version has the above. Order number (number on the back of the cover: F3-SBLX DY

Already a somewhat older topic, but since this is about EAN codes at the end, I didn't seem to need to create a new thread.

Is it perhaps an idea for DVDs and Blue-rays to make the EAN code mandatory?

This is in principle the distinctive song for different versions of one film. When the EAN code has been entered, you can immediately check whether the item in the catalog matches your own item.

A step further could be to check whether an EAN code already exists in the catalog and an error message when an item is entered twice. This way you can also keep the catalog a lot tidier, without duplicate items.

To answer DisneyMeentwijck: As far as I know, the order number is always the number on the cover. The song on the DVD itself is often a reference to that. I always read them that way, unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how it works.

Making it mandatory is only possible for fields that can be filled in always . That is not the case with the EAN. There are plenty of media that do not have EAN, just think of all those video tapes from before the EAN era.

Proposal:
If you search for music by title or artist, you will also see the order number in the results. This is not (yet) the case with films. Especially with titles of which there are several copies that are very similar in terms of the cover, it would be useful if the order number or barcode is also visible. This makes it easier and faster to select if you want to link your own copy to an existing entry. This may also prevent duplication.
