Here you can use the dropdown box. In case of a new artist:
Last name first, then comma, then first name and prefixes.
Band names complete with comma article after them.
We consider Duo's as a band name, unless it is an occasional duo. Occasional duos are split.
What do we do with names that are not used consistently by the artists themselves? Eg Golden Earring; The Golden Earrings; The Golden Earring. Singer Without a Name; The Singer Without a Name. All these names appear on the covers. Catawiki does have aliases, but I don't know exactly how that works. Only administrators see it.
Examples:
Quinn, Freddy
Nijs, Rob de
Rolling Stones, The
Saskia and Serge
Peter Gabriel & amp; Splitting Kate Bush into Gabriel, Peter and Bush, Kate
dEUS

I am in favor of using the name that is not given on the cover on the album
the G.Earings have changed their name at a given moment for the American market
Article always capitalized?

On the one hand, there is something to be said for using the name as it appears on the sound carrier itself. But with artists who have used multiple names themselves, such as (The) Golden Earring (s) or Louis van Dijk and Louis Van Dyke or all those bands that sometimes put “The” before their name and then not, I am actually in favor of putting them under one heading. FransS mentions the possibility of aliases, it would be nice if that could actually be done!

Within the administrator module I have the option to create aliases and name variations. Eg Simon and Garfunkel and Simon & amp; Garfunkel.
I don't know exactly what the effect on the items is. Presumably this has to do with the search. Perhaps René and Marco can clarify this.

Stevie V…
Shouldn't it be "V., Adventures of Stevie"?
Then Adventures of Stevie V. seems clearer to me.
Likewise: George Baker Selection. Would I leave it as it is now, and not “Baker Selection, George” or something like that. make it.

Indeed it is George Bakker Selection, That is also the official name. from 1969 on
Ginger Backer Airforce, Alan Parsons Project, The
But here again a problem, Eric Burdon and War that is in cata like Burdon, Eric and War, this remains a problem just like: & amp; , and, and.
But it depends on the agreements we make together or have already made.
And when in doubt, there is always the forum.

@FrenchS
aliases are indeed related to search. If someone Simon & amp; Garfunkel, he should automatically end up with either Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel. Only in this example would you actually say Simon & amp; Garfunkel, but also Simon, Paul and also Garfunkel, Art

@Frans
Take as an example Alice Cooper (and not Cooper, Alice) if you enter that as search term, comics will show & gt; author Furnier, Vincent (Alice Cooper). Alice Cooper is an alias in this case

Aah, it gets a bit clearer to me :-)
I had already assumed Alice Cooper instead of Cooper, Alice. And I also knew that his name was Vincent Furnier. But I don't think we are supposed to perform Funrnier, Vincent as an artist with the alias Cooper, Alice. Or yes? Do the aliases bite each other?

In music the group is simply called Alice Cooper or the solo artist Alice Cooper.
As (comic) author we choose to use the real name with the pseudonym as an alias. That is so agreed

Gentlemen Moderators.
To my surprise, I saw Bram Tchaikovsky standing there. I guess this should be Tchaikovsky, Bram.
Probably a little oversight from the importer.

Incidentally, this Brit is not to be confused with the other Tchaikovsky ..

Jody Pijper has also made music under the name Jody Myles. For the time being I have only made it Myles, Jody (Pijper, Jody) so that someone who searches for Pijper will at least see all the items.

@pegag.
I changed it to Pijper, Jody (Myles, Jody, Jody's Private Luxury) I just have to put the two Jody Pijper's together and that won't work here. after all, Jody Pijper is her real name

How do we actually deal with pseudonyms. In the other sections we use the real name and pseudo name as an alias, but not in the music.
What's the real name of Bono, The Edge, Slash and so on

I am in favor of working with aliases more within music, so all (the) (golden) Earring (s) as one item \ record. Likewise Prince \ Tafkap.
And Bono can become Hewson, Paul david

Another question, following on from Dick52's post, is whether there are conventions \ agreements to introduce the combo singer + band. This is especially interesting if there are also solo projects of the singer or band in question.
In principle, you could also arrange this with aliases (Corrie en de rekels as an alias for Konings, Corrie, Jonathan Richmond and the modern lovers as an alias for Richmond, Jonathan).

My personal preference is to split by default and enter the singer (es) and the band as separate artists. Eric Burdon & amp; Enter War as two artists Burdon, Eric and War . just like Peter Gabriel & amp; Kate Bush
I think this makes the most sense in terms of naming (prevents mismanagement products like Burdon, Eric and war ) and gives better search results than the alias solution.
Perhaps the search engine should be told to ignore words like and . Otherwise, someone might type in Eric Burdon And War and find nothing because of the word and .
By the way, the search engine should be much Fuzzier at all, but that's another discussion

The real problem is that the terms band and band member are intertwined. The correct approach, but within Catawiki I think a passed station, is a band name and band member fields.
Someone looking for Ritchie Blackmore will also see the relevant Deep Purple items.

at (the) Golden Earing (s) aliases are a correct solution, but the group name from the bearer.

but I don't think the band name was Eric Burdon and War | Burdon, Eric and War) Clapton: Cream, Blind Faith John Mayall's Bluesbreakers Yardbirds Derek & amp; dominoes, Delaney & amp; Bonnie, Plastic ono band, and
then I think I forget some more ... his collaboration with other artists. once, both names make sense

Mentioning band members separately in an extra field is an option, but how far do you want to go with that?

seems to me if artist is mentioned separately in the recording then you might want to add it as an artist

but if I am looking for Beatles then it is nice to have the band members, but I do not have to see the solo or guest appearances.
some recordings would give a zipper to artists and whether that is desirable?
We know the objections of the compilation albums (all x good) that also appear as an album with an artist / band.

Exactly if I get all the problems ... the following - I don't find any of this back - how to react if the same name is used by 2 / more people.

In my case, I have a 1976 Tony Wilson (I Like Your Style) 45T and I don't think the T.W. are now in the database. Is there a distinction made or just clattering together?

If they are different people, it should not be beaten. In that case it is best to add a tag to the name, for example the year of birth.

That tag must be enclosed in square brackets so that it is visually clear that it is a tag and not an alias.

If in the future a small description of the artist is present and a photo oooooootje it seems to me that it has been resolved.

Something with the same name just remains difficult.

Eagles, The (II)
Williams, John (II)

(II) adding keeps things clear.

And how do you do that with Loudon Wainwright III? :-)

If in the future a small description of the artist is present and a photo oooooootje it seems to me that it has been resolved.

Also, a photooooooooooooootje does not help prevent people from making a wrong choice if they see Eagles, The (I) and Eagles, The (II) in their dropdown when entering.

Adding a (roman) number as a tag has the disadvantage that you cannot see at all which of the two is meant when you enter something. That quickly goes wrong and such meaningless tags should be avoided in my opinion
