I received a message from the current Signatures administrator that an imported signed LP sleeve was refused because "with signatures we only include signatures on notes, photo cards and such".

Probably good this new one policy to be mentioned here.

There will therefore still be a considerable number of signatures removed from the music section.

If you look in the section, you will see that only notes, signature cards and photo cards are included, but I agree that it should be stated more clearly. Ultimately, the signatures section will disappear in its current form, or so it is intended, but there is still some work to be done.

"When I look in the section", I see countless LP covers or CD cases with a signature! For example:

4058932, 2962579 , 2991155 , 3649491 , 3649489 . 3627103 , etc.

This unwritten (new?) rule should therefore be applied to that.

Thanks to the importing collectors!

Thanks for looking up. I had missed it.
It has been clear for some time that the infrastructure of Catawiki is still far from optimal for collectors of signatures. Several have dropped out in the last two years. Hopefully they will come back someday if there is a better way to work for them.

Sic:

Apparently Catawiki does not see any profit in making autograph auctions and will erode the category and eventually close it down.

Good luck with erasing (and chasing away!)

You see this wrong, I don't know which item it is

but suppose you have an LP of the singer without a name

is the album not in the catalog yet, you can just add it even if it has her signature or whatever on it.

starting point is the album should have been available in the store as usual, etc.

if the album is already in the catalog, you can Simply place the album with signature in your own collection or shop

and mention details there, including signature received at her last concert, just name something

I have of course also entered the LPs (and ARCO books!) in the relevant catalogues, but the layout, fields and important features in the Signatures catalog are quite different and in that catalog the book, the record or the CD case is only the coincidental surface on which/in which the authentic signature, with or without message and/or date, has been placed.

But yes, I'll let the real autograph collectors do the talking!

As I already mentioned, the LP incl cover in the record section and then a link to celebrities; signatures and whatnot anymore.

And then things go wrong your copy may not be in the catalog but in your collection

these are things that need to be addressed just like central names register,

countries, themes etc.

The problem is of course not that you have to enter an item in the 'correct' section.

The problem is that you lose sight of your signature. You can mention it in details, but that field is not searchable. So you can't search your collection of signatures or make selections. However, this does not only apply to the real autograph collectors, but to all collectors. Almost every collector has signed objects in his collection, which cannot easily be found within the current structure.

There are also ideas how this could be set up, but nothing is set in stone yet.

@Drambuie: How important is the date field? Would it suffice if you could see what was signed by whom for all your items in your own collection, and make a selection based on that? By default, a set of items is sorted by the year the object was manufactured, not the year it was signed. Is it necessary for a signature collector to be able to organize the signed objects by year of signing? Or could you include that information in the details of your own item.

@Dick52 There are a few very ugly catches under the central names grass, for which no solution has been found yet.

That's clear to me

and it's not easy!

but it's very important just like countries and themes

I would almost say even more weight than the third scan with vinyl

Apparently Catawiki does not see any prospect of making money from signature auctions and will erode the section and eventually close it down.

If we didn't think it was important, we wouldn't be there. think about how to fix it. Grow up.

@pegag: As can be read in my profile, I am not an expert or collector of signatures. For me, the fields for signatures suffice, but a field for the item that is signed could possibly be a means of selection for the real collectors as to what they want to attribute or not to a (their) signature collection.

I am writing in my profile also that I endorse the thought behind the collectors part of Catawiki and like to supplement the various catalogs to the best of my ability.

However, it has already happened to me several times that the same omnipotent manager Items entered with care will be removed in their entirety, without there being any justification for this in manuals or forum posts.

Consultation about this in advance is apparently not an option.

With "signatures "I only entered my signed plates and books after making sure that there were already several signatures on such" carriers "in the catalog.

Because of this only much later, and only after ' Don't enter many items, as an administrator you frustrate the collectors who form the basis of Catawiki.

I prefer that people first put the various catalogs in order and provide definitions and a short instruction to fill in (praise for the manual at Records and CDs), rather than focusing on fine-tuning and expanding Auction Wiki.

And you can't imagine the phenomenon that we as administrators do not immediately see everything, and can only delete something as soon as we see the item?

Not being able to provide current feedback to importers only underlines the importance of good input instructions and definitions.

And removing wrong items without immediately providing good instructions to (new) importers is in mopping my eyes with the tap open.

In that context, I can imagine the backlog of administrators.

Catawiki Grow up!

In general not no. That sounds very harsh, but you also have to be able to imagine yourself a bit in the manager's mind. You don't want to know how much all those collectors can enter together in the catalog every day. Administrators (unpaid volunteers) must check, correct and possibly reject all of this. Administrators are overworked and they just don't have enough time to keep a huge accounting of who still wants to improve what and when. Especially when you consider that 90% of users simply do not respond when you contact them. The only way to keep things manageable is to quickly reject if something is entered in the wrong section. And sometimes that sucks, yes.

At "signatures" I only entered my signed plates and books after I had made sure that there were already several signatures on such "carriers" in the catalog

There are many more sections, containing objects from the early days of Catawiki that do not (or no longer) belong there. That is indeed confusing sometimes.

By removing this much later, and only after entering many items, you as an administrator frustrate the collectors who form the basis of Catawiki.

It's not nice to remove things like that, which sometimes many people already have in their collection. And so we don't. That's why they're still there. Deleting is a piece of cake, but those things should all be moved to categories where they do belong. And that's a hell of a job (did I mention that administrators are over their heads in work?) So that's going slowly. But if we allow new incorrect input in the meantime, we will never get the leak to the surface.

I'd rather see the various catalogs put in order first and provide definitions and a short instruction to fill in (praise for the manual for Records and CDs), than to focus on fine-tuning and expanding Veilingwiki.

You are right that there is still room for improvement with regard to the cohesion of the sections and the provision of proper completion instructions. Is being worked on. But also those input instructions, such as with plates, are made by administrators (and did I mention that administrators ....... exactly, up to their ears)

Catawiki Grow up!

Look, at least you're addressing the good people now. (;-)

The fact is that the signature problem, like almost every other amendment proposal regarding the catalog of the last at least two years, is 'on hold'. Hopefully that will soon improve, but we as administrators can only hope and insist.

Mopping with the tap would be open if I allowed items that already have their own section to enter the signature section. Users who enter such items there will be notified as soon as I detect it. All other items such as photo cards would normally belong in the Other section, so that is easy to understand. Signatures is now actually a second section 'Other'. The rubric should never have been created in this way, everyone agrees, but that's hindsight.

1) The reasoning / rule of each item just in one section does many collecting areas and collectors short. You see that problem in many more "overlapping" sections (postcards, aviation, etc.). For the signature collector, the signature counts even if, for example, the LP is no longer in the sleeve, for the vinyl lover the cover should preferably be as virgin to be possible. What to do with a signed KLM Tshirt?
A book must have a name written in it has a maximum "reasonable" in terms of condition, while in the other only books signed by the author make the heart beat faster.

What is Catawiki's ultimate goal? a mega catalog in which every item in the world (after all, you can collect everything) only appears once or a collection of catalogs that are each focused as much as possible on the collectors and their collection areas and in which cross-links between collection areas may be visible.

Especially now that many catalogs and sections are still so diverse in structure and options to fill in, I personally would not be bothered if an item appeared in more sections; Catawiki is, on balance, a catalog and not a collection where you cannot split one physical item and display it in 2 themed rooms at the same time.

2) If "everyone agrees that the section Signatures on should never have been created in this way ", then it is obvious to close this" production line "immediately and ask collectors to wait until order has been put in place, or would that damage the image of Catawiki.
Especially if someone from the same "everyone" indicates that 90% of the collectors do not respond to a "recall" of these incorrect / incomplete items. (It is strange if it turns out that you have been entering his ... for the cat)
So: Short pain versus the long misery of an extremely laborious and time-consuming conversion / relocation.
No guts, no glory !

And finally: (Arco I do speak to the administrators myself!)

3) Just like a paid employee, a volunteer is entitled to decent working conditions and suitable tools. If his or her management does not cooperate in this and places the priorities elsewhere (growth, making progress, magzines, auctions, etc.) then I would also ask myself as a volunteer / manager whether I want to be exploited and kept busy with commitments and promises.
You shouldn't ignore a big beating collector's heart, but you should ask yourself whether your commitment will not continue to allow management to keep putting priorities in the wrong place.
As an employee and as as a volunteer, you remain jointly responsible for your working conditions. Sometimes that means that you have to make (or threaten) the same choices as the choices made by the volunteers / collectors who filled / built up Catawiki and who are now dropping out.

I read on the forum only sighing administrators who feel that they are not being heard, that changes are not being implemented, proposals are not being made or problems are not being addressed.
On the other hand, those same volunteers / administrators are defending with fire and sword Catawiki against collectors who criticize or put forward negative points.
The (collector) heart apparently wins from the ratio with the result that soft healers make smelly (not healing) wounds and that means in this case also stay mop with the tap open.

Volunteers have just as much responsibilities:
Perform their task as well as possible (there is no lack of will to do so. given the (to be praised) urge for quality, perfection and completeness of the managers), but also the responsibility to look at their position and role in the big whole / company, and that aspect is in my view much less clear, because it is precisely their collector's heart that prevents them from taking that first responsibility ( even) a little less priority and thus possibly temporarily jeopardized.

This completes the circle with only a few happy owners (employers) who have sold their auction site for a lot of money.

So if I understand correctly, signed books should be in the collection of books. Signed comics for collection of comics, signed LPs for collection of LPs?

and the signature section is removed?

May I also ask why?
